Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
Gather 3 whole bay leaves and 5–6 cloves. Ensure they are clean and free from dust or debris.
If using optional ingredients like ginger or cinnamon, slice or break them into manageable pieces.
Step 2: Boil the Water
Pour 2 cups of water into a small saucepan or pot.
Place the pot on medium heat and bring the water to a gentle boil.
Step 3: Add the Bay Leaves and Cloves
Once the water begins to boil, add the bay leaves and cloves directly into the pot.
If using optional ingredients, add them at this stage as well.
Step 4: Simmer and Steep
Reduce the heat to low and allow the mixture to simmer for 7–10 minutes.
During this time, the water will begin to change color—typically a light amber or golden hue.
The aroma will intensify, releasing the essential oils from the bay leaves and cloves.
Step 5: Strain the Tea
Turn off the heat and let the tea sit for 1–2 minutes to settle.
Using a fine mesh strainer or tea sieve, pour the tea into a cup or mug, removing the solids.
Discard the bay leaves, cloves, and any optional ingredients used.
Step 6: Serve
Serve the tea warm. If desired, stir in honey or lemon juice for added flavor.
Garnish with a mint leaf or lemon wedge for presentation.
Sip slowly and enjoy the soothing, aromatic experience.
