Apple Slab Pie 🍏🥧🌟
I’ve been making these for years and people lose their mind over them every time. They seem like a special homemade treat, but even my 10‑year‑old can make them by herself. A fabulous dessert that couldn’t be easier! If you’ve never had this before, it’s a must‑make—grandma’s recipe!
Yield: One 15×10‑inch slab pie (about 12–15 servings)
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Chill Time: 30 minutes (optional, for the dough)
Bake Time: 40–45 minutes
Ingredients
For the Crust

2½ cups all‑purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup shortening, chilled

½ cup cold water
For the Filling

8 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples (about 6–7 medium apples; Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)

1 cup white sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
For Finishing (Optional)

1 egg yolk + 1 teaspoon water (for egg wash)

Coarse sugar, for sprinkling
